What is CrossFit?
CrossFit is defined as: Constantly Varied, High Intensity and Functional Movement.
CrossFit is a sport unto itself. It is also a way of life – not just a workout you do at the gym. It incorporates all 10 components of fitness – through cardiovascular conditioning, strength training, weightlifting and gymnastics movements.
You will never be bored, every workout is different. You will be mentally and physically challenged during every workout and you will feel yourself getting fitter, stronger and faster every day!
CrossFit prepares you for whatever life throws at you. Whether you are an high level athlete in another sport, law enforcement officer, an office worker, home maker or a student – it is about being ready for the unknown and knowing that because you do CrossFit you can do anything!!!
Classes lasts one hour and includes a “Workout of the Day” (WOD) that is generally short and intense. However, the exercise with be customized to suit each individual’s ability – difficult enough to challenge you, but not so difficult you don’t want to come back!!
The mindset at the start of each workout is to be stronger, move faster, more efficiently, with better form than ever. You do not compete against anyone but yourself!
CrossFit is hard, fun, exciting, challenging, and will push you to be your absolute best!
CrossFit has its own language – just Like Starbucks!
You will hear words or see abbreviations such as:
• “Box” – Thats what we call a gym. Our box is called CrossFit Island 242!
• “WOD” – Workout of the Day
• “AMRAP” – As Many Rounds as Possible
• “RFT” – Rounds for Time
There are quite a few more, but these are the ones you will see or hear on a daily basis.
